museum visits

Visiting natural history museum collections to study specimens in their holding is of great importance to (1) study primary and secondary type specimens and to (2) discover yet unstudied specimens for taxonomic and phylogenetic projects. The "best" specimens are often sitting undetected in the unsorted Diptera drawers and Torsten Dikow spends a lot of time searching through these for drawers to find important specimens as well as to improve the holdings of teh respective collection by sorting material to family taxon / subfamily taxon / genus.
